As some people have noticed, we do accept three-dimensional work such as sculptures. There is some beautiful work out there and we do not want to miss it! As such, one of our reviewers who has experience with film and video lighting put together this helpful image to show one way to properly light a figure.
This is from them: "I'm not a sculptor myself, so I just took a figure I had around and did some quick-and-dirty lighting on it. It's not the best, but gives a good idea of the basics from where to start. I used a couple desklamps, one with some blue plastic over it for the backlight. I would highly recommend getting a workbook on film and video lighting, and perhaps some gels, usually available at theatre supply shops."
Down the line, I would expect this to be the minimum standard of quality on ArtSpots for sculpture lighting. Since perspective is not something we can measure on a sculpture obviously, we will give a lot more attention to lighting and a bit more to composition. We also expect the same care of placing them into a scene as one might with a two-dimensional drawing, and soon hope to have an example of that.

P.S. The image is fairly large, 250k.
